Our Y3 class is led by Mr Wright supported by our teaching assistants, Mrs Tucker and Miss Lisa.
Y3 have PE on Wednesday. Children wear their complimentary Roby Park PE kit to school – white logo tshirt, navy joggers and jacket. In the warmer months, children may want to wear their burgundy shorts.
Children are allocated multiple books weekly on Rising Stars Reading Planet as well as a physical book which is changed weekly, linked to their stage of Reading. Physical books are changed every Wednesday. We expect children to read for 10 minutes every night and then to complete the end of book comprehension quiz online when they come to the end of their book. You can access Reading Planet here.

¡Hola! Year 3 had an exciting week with the OPAL play afternoon. Today was also European Day of Languages, where we learnt how to greet each other, say how we feel, say goodbye in Spanish, and learnt a flamenco dance. ¡Olé!

Our pupils know just how valuable every moment in school is! Leo W Y4 shared that missing school would’ve meant missing out on his reading assessments—he’s proud of the progress he’s made and didn’t want to lose that momentum. Meanwhile, Lyra Y1 has been loving her interactive Maths lessons, especially counting confidently to 100, and Oliver YR has been fully immersed in Rocket Phonics, soaring through his sounds and stories. Fruit is available at break time and lunch time and if there is anything left, children (only) can help themselves to a piece of fruit for the way home/extra-curricular clubs. We held our @HelpPicture session about whether we should be allowed to build homes anywhere. Year 3 discussed and understood both sides of the question and answers included the importance of green space and nature, along with how everyone should be able to buy a home!

KS2 craft club has seen us make exciting festive creations. Last week we created stain glass Christmas cards and this week we built upon those skills making stain glass lanterns. Next week we look forward to making a Christmas wreath each

Miss Sutton’s Y3 attendance recognition nomination was: “ Well done to the class for being fabulous this week starting our new history learning on the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age! Everyone, especially Alfie, were so curious to learn more!” Whilst Mr Stansfield said about Y5: “ Well done to Nieve for using your sensory breaks correctly to enable you to work to the best of your ability.” Nieve popped on the top hat and rolled the dice, winning her classmates a non-uniform day. In History this week, we have been learning all about the Stone Age and Bronze Age. We were able to analyse different artefacts and consider what they were before making a poster inspired by cave paintings all about the Stone Age. #RPHistory

Thank you to all parents and carers who attended our remembrance service today. It was a lovely opportunity to recognise those who have served and currently serving for our country. Well done to our year 6 speakers who did everyone proud. #RemembanceDay
In our Science and Shared Reading lessons we are learning all about rocks and minerals! We started our learning with understanding the differences between igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks and we are excited for where our learning will lead!
Wow our free fruit has been exceptionally popular this week. The children have devoured:

In Computing, we learned all about networks. We used string to represent the connections between components, discovered how websites and the cloud work and ended by understanding the importance of packet data! #RPComputing
Tomorrow, we will be holding our Halloween discos. We will end the day, with our fabulous Halloween discos with Nursery and Reception enjoying their party from 2.00-3.00pm during the school day. Y1 & Y2 will have their disco at 3-4pm with Y3 – Y6 having their disco 4.15 – 5.15pm. All children can come to school in their Halloween costumes however these must be age appropriate. Frightening and gory costumes, masks and weapons are not allowed. If children do not want to dress up, they can come to school in party clothes or whatever they are most comfortable in. Nursery children who do not attend school in the afternoons but wish to come to the disco, are welcome to return to school at 2pm. The cost of the disco for Nursery – Y2 children is £3.00 and includes a small packet of sweets, crisps and a drink. The cost of the disco for Y3 – Y6 is £3.00 and children get a chip cone and they can bring extra money to buy sweets, drinks and crisps. There is also limited glow items. The disco must be paid for on Parent Pay by 3.00pm tomorrow. Tickets are live on Parent Pay now. All children in Nursery – Y2 should be picked up from their classroom door at the end of their discos. KS2 children should be collected from the main playground by an adult at 5.15pm. KS2 children must be brought to school for the disco by an adult and the adult must wait for children to have gone through the double red doors before leaving then collecting them at 5.15pm. Staff are not responsible for children until they are in the disco.

We are excited to be hosting an inspirational workshop with European Champion Boxer, Chloe Watson. Chloe needs your help to raise funds for vital training, medical and competition costs. This money raised will also help our school and we will be using monies raised to put towards OPAL.

During ADHD Awareness month, we would like to share another photo of our @ADHDFoundation
Umbrella Project. From the ADHD foundation website: The Neurodiversity Umbrella Project is an uplifting visual representation of all the different minds we have here in the UK. Every Umbrella Project installation helps to raise awareness and understanding of neurodiversity. Thousands of colourful umbrellas are strung together over public spaces, in schools, and in company buildings around the nation. In PE our aim was to explore different ways to dribble, deciding on the best technique.

In Science this week, we have been looking at nutrition and the human body. We know that the traffic light system is found on the front of food and looked at some examples. We also met our class skeleton ‘Bony Jack’ and began by looking at it’s bones! #RPScience

Summer camp places can now be booked on Parent Pay. Sessions run from 9am – 3pm and cost just £12.50 per child, per day. Summer camp runs from Monday 22nd July – Friday 9th August. Children need to bring with them a coat, packed lunch, snack and water bottle.

In our first Science lesson about scientific enquiry, we created solar ovens to melt chocolate. We positioned our ovens, measured temperature with thermometers and recorded how the sun was melting our chocolate!
Our final clubs of the school year go live at 9ma tomorrow. Head to Parent Booking to book your child on. Thanks to our incredible team who devote their time to putting on clubs. Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to offer 58 clubs with 900+ places taken up!
In Computing, we used top trumps to understand databases and fields. We created our own, then inputted our data into a spreadsheet. We also looked at different hotels and filtered the databases by the facilities we wanted on our dream holiday. #RPComputing
In RE, we considered what made someone responsible or irresponsible, whether adults and children have the same responsibilities and the responsibilities of a Christian. We finished by painting the responsibilities that we have too. #RPRE

As a part of #WorldBookDay2024 , we had the amazing @WestEndinSchool who allowed us to explore the play Twelfth Night. We created different freeze frames and acted out an important scene as a class.
During #WorldWildlifeDay2024 we sorted food chains, made our own and considered what can happen when a food chain is disrupted. We discovered the dangers on the food chain if animals go extinct, and how all different food chains are dependent on each other.

We are looking for a team of parents/carers to galvanise our Home School Association (HSA). We are looking for parents/carers who have ideas and want to lead our HSA. To find out more and/or come share your ideas, join us for a drink, pastry and a chat.

Y2 we have been learning about Kings and Queens from the past & today we had a visit from Queen Elizabeth I thanks to @PastProductions. The children loved learning about royal etiquette, Tudor dancing, jousting & what life was like during the Queen’s reign. #RPHistory @SILPrimary

So much fun was had today in the snow All children enjoyed today, building snowmen and having snowball fights with their friends. A special shout out to Mr Lyon, Mr Couling & Mr Swatman who were the dream team moving the snow & making sure school was safe
Please send children in wrapped up warm in thick coats, hat, gloves and scarves with wellies so we can enjoy the snow together! Please send children in with spare socks/tights
We are all really enjoying playtimes with our new role play area as well as scooting and lots more area’s to get creative to make playtime more fun for all!
In History this week, we began our new Transport unit by looking at how transport has changed over time. We looked at boat, plane, train and car travel and added them to our timeline. #RPHistory

A mural capturing everything the community loves about #Huyton has been unveiled at Huyton Train Station.
In Computing, we worked on our emailing skills. We began by composing and sending simple emails and getting used to the inbox and drafts features. Then, we were able to add attachments to our emails for the recipient to view. #RPComputing
We came back to school to an amazing new reading area within our classroom. We feel very lucky and are really excited to have an amazing range of brand new, high-quality texts that we can explore independently or with friends! #RPReading

This week, Year 3 loved beginning to read their new books. We had the difficult decision of choosing a book from over 100 new fiction and non-fiction texts and we are excited to complete our Spring Term reading challenge!

Year 3 have had so much fun making their pneumatic toys. We made lots of animals including some crocodiles, dogs, turtles and even a Pudsey bear! We have definitely learnt that air has the power to make something move!
Our Christmas Family Dining event is back this year but with a few changes. This year, parents and carers can choose the day they want to attend and book their whole family on together so siblings can sit together. Head to Parent Booking to reserve your seats.
In our @ELITE_Swim_UK swimming lesson today, we worked to begin to swim front crawl across the pool. We also practiced the life-saving skill of floating on our backs, both with a float and in the star shape with no float. Year 3 are gaining so much confidence! #RPPE

Tomorrow is our annual @RockKidzUK Day which will be teaching the children a positive message about mental health, self esteem and wellbeing, Children can come dressed as rock stars or if they do not want to dress up they can wear their own clothes or uniform.
In Forest School today, Year 3 had great fun working on their map reading skills to find different locations and symbols, gathering wood, identifying different leaves from different trees and working on their fire-lighting skills.
Year 3 Today in PE our aim was to make your balances interesting by using different levels and body parts to balance on. ?
In Art this week, we practiced our shading, smudging, cross hatching and line drawing using different sketching pencils and charcoal to then apply onto our own self-portraits!
Last week, we had a fun visit from @AnimalsTakeOver where we got to hold and pet some different animals, and learn about their skeletons too! #RPScience #RPEnrichment
Year 3 had an incredible time in the @World_Museum at their Stone, Bronze and Iron Age workshop. We got to handle real artefacts, learn more about what life was like back then and explore other topics in the museum too! #RPHistory #RPEnrichment
Year 3 absolutely loved their @sports4champs circuit with @PurvisDanny ! They worked on their push ups, star jumps, step ups and heard all about Danny’s journey. #RPEnrichment
Today we celebrated #EuropeanDayofLanguages! Year 3 enjoyed working on their @LanguageAngels_ Early Language including Spanish numbers and colours, followed by creating self-portraits in the style of Picasso’s blue period.
Year 3 worked amazingly in English today writing their own kenning poems about the Iron Man. Metal cruncher, night time hunter, nightmare maker!
