Our Y2 class is led by Mr Swatman supported by our teaching assistants, Mrs Woolley and Miss Mills.
PE
Y2 have PE on Tuesday. Children wear their complimentary Roby Park PE kit to school – white logo tshirt, navy joggers and jacket. In the warmer months, children may want to wear their burgundy shorts.
Reading Books
Children are allocated multiple books weekly on Rising Stars Reading Planet as well as a physical book which is changed weekly, linked to their stage of Reading. Physical books are changed every Monday. We expect children to read for 10 minutes every night and then to complete the end of book comprehension quiz online when they come to the end of their book. You can access Reading Planet here.
Home Learning
- Children are to read for 10 minutes per night and bring their reading log in everyday, signed by an adult.
- Spelling and times table home learning will be set on a Monday via Emile and should be completed by Monday

We immersed ourselves in our new vehicle text, A River by @marc_martin, by making predictions based on what we could hear, see & touch. One group said, “We think the story is set in a jungle because we can see large leaves, a tiger & a parrot.”
3Junior Dukes Workshops
We’re looking forward to welcoming parents & carers to our @JuniorDukeAward workshops. All workshops start at 9am and parents/carers will be working alongside their child to decide what challenges they will complete over the next academic year.

Y2 enjoyed an Olympic workshop with @educationgroup. We focused on Egypt & the children loved developing their rhythm to Egyptian Baladi. We also looked at some inspiring athletes

In science we identified what we could do to help reduce the impact humans have on habitats. We carried out a litter audit of our school grounds & recorded our observations. This prompted discussions about how we could help protect habitats. #RPScience

Today we had a great visit from physiotherapist Ruth. She told us what a physiotherapist is and what they do to help people. We really enjoyed looking at the model joints & practising some stretches that she uses to help improve peoples posture#RPCareersweek

Y2 loved meeting @MerPolMounted. The children had many great questions & we learnt how vets use teeth to find out the age of the horses. One child said, “I’d like to be a mounted police officer because they use horses to keep people safe & that must be rewarding.” #RPCareers

18Summer Holiday Camp
Summer camp places can now be booked on Parent Pay. Sessions run from 9am – 3pm and cost just £12.50 per child, per day. Summer camp runs from Monday 22nd July – Friday 9th August. Children need to bring with them a coat, packed lunch, snack and water bottle.

This week in DT the children have been designing, testing and making chairs that meets a specific design brief. They worked hard to ensure the chair was stable, secure and would hold the weight of baby bear from Goldilocks and the 3 bears.

Y2 had a fantastic forest school session that led to lots of badges! We worked on our fire lighting skills before working collaboratively to create a piece of artwork using natural materials. We also used potato peelers to develop our whittling skills. #RPEnrichment @Littfoothq

Y2 enjoyed exploring @Space_Station in their computing lessons this week. They identified & digitally drew items that astronauts need to survive and created algorithms that would be useful when living and working on the International Space Station.

Y2 were democratic in their @SSCCTY meeting today. The children discussed the British Value respect & considered how they show & receive respect in school. One child said, “I feel respected @RobyParkSchool because it is a kind school and we celebrate differences.” #RPPSHE

31Million Steps Challenge Competition Winners
As part of the Million Steps Challenge, @cashforkidsliv teamed up with publisher Simon & Schuster to offer all participating primary schools the chance to win a Library Pack of 20 books. Following the end of the challenge all schools that signed up were put into a draw, and…we’re thrilled to let you know that our school is a winner! In history Y2 have been developing a better understanding of how transport has changed over time. They enjoyed putting pictures of different vehicles in chronological order while also looking at the differences & similarities between cars today & cars in 1896. #RPHistory

We discussed animals that live in our oceans as part of #WorldWildlifeDay & some asked how big some of the animals were. So, along with @Year2RobyPark we did some research and used ourselves to make the length of blue whales and orca. We were amazed at their size!
