Y2 English

We immersed ourselves in our new vehicle text, A River by @marc_martin, by making predictions based on what we could hear, see & touch. One group said, “We think the story is set in a jungle because we can see large leaves, a tiger & a parrot.”

Junior Dukes Workshops

We’re looking forward to welcoming parents & carers to our @JuniorDukeAward workshops. All workshops start at 9am and parents/carers will be working alongside their child to decide what challenges they will complete over the next academic year.

Y2 Olympics Day

Y2 enjoyed an Olympic workshop with @educationgroup. We focused on Egypt  & the children loved developing their rhythm to Egyptian Baladi. We also looked at some inspiring athletes

In science we identified what we could do to help reduce the impact humans have on habitats. We carried out a litter audit of our school grounds & recorded our observations. This prompted discussions about how we could help protect habitats. #RPScience

Y2 hand a fantastic visit from performance poet @CurtisWatt who got us all engaged with his djembe drum. He encouraged us to think about & write down the things we would need to do to achieve our dream jobs. Focus & practise were 2 of our key words. #RPCareersWeek

Y2 enjoyed an inspiring visit from @drrachelbroady who shared her knowledge & experience of Journalism. One child said, “Journalism sounds like a fun job & I like the way even though Rachel was told she couldn’t be a journalist she went out & proved them wrong.” #RPCareersWeek

Thanks John & Paul from @RobertsRecycle who told us about their jobs. We learnt about the importance of recycling old clothes and they showed us how their company does this. One child said, “I’d like to do this job because you can make the better by recycling.”#RPCareersWeek

Y2 enjoyed meeting author and illustrator Lauren Mather who read her book Paws and Claws. The children loved asking her questions and got a better understanding of the process involved in writing and illustrating a book. #RPReading #RPCareersWeek

Today we had a great visit from physiotherapist Ruth. She told us what a physiotherapist is and what they do to help people. We really enjoyed looking at the model joints & practising some stretches that she uses to help improve peoples posture#RPCareersweek

Y2 loved meeting @MerPolMounted. The children had many great questions & we learnt how vets use teeth to find out the age of the horses. One child said, “I’d like to be a mounted police officer because they use horses to keep people safe & that must be rewarding.” #RPCareers

Y2 enjoyed visits from @MerPolKnowsley & @MerseyPolice. The officers told us about their jobs & we were lucky enough to sit on their bikes. We also got a closer look at some of their equipment & learnt more about fingerprints & the job scientific support has in policing

Y2 End of Year Class Trip

Y2 have been looking forward to their end of year trip & it didn’t disappoint. We had lots of awesome fun @BubblesPlayNB & were then able to enjoy the fabulous weatheron New Brighton beach with a delicious ice cream  #RPEnrichment #NewBrighton #RNLI

Summer Holiday Camp

Summer camp places can now be booked on Parent Pay. Sessions run from 9am – 3pm and cost just £12.50 per child, per day. Summer camp runs from Monday 22nd July – Friday 9th August. Children need to bring with them a coat, packed lunch, snack and water bottle.

Our Summer Fair is back this Friday 1-4pm! Children can wear their own clothes to school. Purchase your tickets on Parent Pay and collect your wristbands from the office for priority access. Join us for fun in the sun…

Y2 Design Technology

This week in DT the children have been designing, testing and making chairs that meets a specific design brief. They worked hard to ensure the chair was stable, secure and would hold the weight of baby bear from Goldilocks and the 3 bears.

Y2 had a fantastic forest school session that led to lots of badges! We worked on our fire lighting skills before working collaboratively to create a piece of artwork using natural materials. We also used potato peelers to develop our whittling skills. #RPEnrichment @Littfoothq

Y2 Computing

Y2 enjoyed exploring @Space_Station in their computing lessons this week. They identified & digitally drew items that astronauts need to survive and created algorithms that would be useful when living and working on the International Space Station.

Y2 were democratic in their @SSCCTY meeting today. The children discussed the British Value respect & considered how they show & receive respect in school. One child said, “I feel respected @RobyParkSchool because it is a kind school and we celebrate differences.” #RPPSHE

Million Steps Challenge Competition Winners

As part of the Million Steps Challenge, @cashforkidsliv teamed up with publisher Simon & Schuster to offer all participating primary schools the chance to win a Library Pack of 20 books. Following the end of the challenge all schools that signed up were put into a draw, and…we’re thrilled to let you know that our school is a winner!  Books are on their way to us and will go into our reading shed for our children to enjoy

Y2 Art

Y2 History

In history Y2 have been developing a better understanding of how transport has changed over time. They enjoyed putting pictures of different vehicles in chronological order while also looking at the differences & similarities between cars today & cars in 1896. #RPHistory

OPAL Golden Welly Award

Well done to our golden welly winner this week. He has been very collaborative and included other children in his play. His kindness has been spotted by many different staff.

Sun Safety

Please make sure children are wearing factor 50 sun cream when the weather is predicted to be hot. Please leave jumpers/cardigans off. Children need a water bottle to stay hydrated & a hat to protect them from the sun. Children will be encouraged to play in shaded areas

We are excited to see all of the chn back for an exciting start of term tomorrow. Doors open at 8.40am. Just a polite reminder to send chn into school in their school PE tracksuit, trainers and warm coat for our @OPAL_CIC launch day tomorrow.

Chn will get to experience and enjoy all of our new resources. Chn must have their wellies with them to go on the field. Wellies will stay in school so please wear trainers and bring wellies in a bag. Keep an eye out on all of our socials to see what fun the children get up to.

OPAL Bingo – Deadline 15.4.24

Don’t forget the deadline for our @OPAL_CIC bingo competition is this Mon. Please feel free to get friends, family & neighbours involved! The more, the merrier. Please send all resources through to class with your child so your child’s class teacher can mark them off.

OPAL Day – Mon 15th April

To launch all of our exciting new @OPAL_CIC resources, we are going to host a launch day this Mon for the chn. All chn need to come in to school wearing their PE kits and trainers, with their wellies also to keep in school. Children are only allowed on the field with wellies.

Y2 Growing Up Week

Growing up week was a fantastic end to an amazing spring term. The children were able to come to school dressed as what they want to be when they grow up. We had vets, doctors, hair dressers, artists, chefs, beauticians, soldiers, footballers and dancers. #aspirations #DreamBig

New Welly Stores Have Arrived!

Thank you to our HSA & our staff for making Easter happen at Roby Park. They’ve collected Easter eggs & organised an Easter Egg Hunt that the children thoroughly enjoyed. Our Easter discos were a great success also & today there will be visitors to class with more egg surprises

We Need Your Wellies!

Fantastic Fundraising Efforts

WOW! We have raised £379.20 for brand new books from our sponsored reading event and £104 for @comicrelief. Books will be going into our new reading shed for children to enjoy at playtimes. Thank you so much! @OPAL_CIC

Y2 Religious Education

Y2 enjoyed a fantastic trip to  @StBartsRoby. We were able to find some of the important parts of the church by completing a fun scavenger hunt. We developed a better understanding of why Christians celebrate Easter and we found out that the building is 174 years old #RPRE #Easter

Y5 World Book Day

For #WorldBookDay2024 we wore our comfiest pyjamas and read with @Year2RobyPark. We shared books and listened to new books being read to us by someone different. #RPEnrichment

Assembly times are as follows:

• EYFS @ 9 – 9.45am

• Y3 & Y4 @ 10.00 – 10.45am

• Y1 & Y2 @ 1.10 – 2.00pm

• Y5 & Y6 @ 2.10 – 2.50pm

Y1 World Wildlife Day

We discussed animals that live in our oceans as part of #WorldWildlifeDay & some asked how big some of the animals were. So, along with  @Year2RobyPark we did some research and used ourselves to make the length of blue whales and orca. We were amazed at their size!

Easter Holiday Club

Our Easter Holiday Club is back for YR-Y6, running from 2nd-12th April. Sessions run from 9.00-3.00pm and cost £12.50 per day. Children need to bring a packed lunch, water bottle and raincoat. Select your days and make payment on Parent Pay #RPEnrichment

Y2 Design Technology

This week in DT Y2 have been developing their understanding of levers, linkages and pivots. They have analysed popular toys with the correct terminology an had a go at creating functional linkages that produce the desired input and output motions. #RPDT

Y2 Religious Education

This week in RE we have been learning why Christians celebrate Easter & what the key events are in the Easter story. In one of our lessons we learnt what the bread & wine (blackcurrant juice in our case) symbolise & why it is important to Christians & their faith #RPRE #Easter

We need socks!

The children are loving the sandpit which is a great addition to playtimes and our curriculum. Please can we ask parents/carers to put additional socks in children’s bags incase they get wet in the sandpit during the colder/wetter months? Thank you

Y2 have decided that the gigantic sandpit is a great addition to playtimes @RobyParkSchool. One child said, “Playing in the sandpit with my friends was the best! Our school is so much fun.”

Y2 Valentine’s Disco

We had lots of fun at our valentines disco, dancing with our friends, playing games, enjoying some treats and singing some of our favourite songs! #RPEnrichment #ValentinesDay

Y2 Forest School

Y2 had an amazing forest school session with @Littfoothq. They worked collaboratively to build a bridge, practised tying knots, learnt how to use a storm shelter and had the opportunity to use a hammock. #RPForestschool #outdoorlearning

Y2 Art

In Art, Y2 have been recapping their knowledge of primary & secondary colours while also experimenting with a range of different painting techniques used by Claude Monet in his impressionist paintings Haystacks. They can’t wait to use these in their final piece. #RPArt

Spring Progress Meetings

Spring Progress Meetings are now live on Parent Booking for you to select your appointment time. Progress meetings will take place on 28th and 29th February between 3.15 – 7.30pm.

We are raising money for NSPCC. We will be collecting £1 donations and children can wear clothes with numbers on or patterns. We will also be hosting a small cake sale after school, on the main playground

We welcomed our R – Y2 families today for a phonics workshop to demonstrate how phonics is taught at Roby Park. We modelled lessons to show how these look, provided resources to use at home and shared the fantastic resources our children have in school!

Y2 Science

In science, Y2 loved comparing the differences between things that are living, dead & things that have never been alive. The children used their knowledge of the 7 characteristics of living things to identify & classify different things into 3 groups.

Wellies Needed!

Please can you send your child in with a pair of named wellies and extra socks to keep in school please? This means your child can enjoy playing on the field in all weathers! 

Y2 Snow Fun

Thank you to parents & carers for sending the children to school ready for the weather. This meant we were able to have fun in the snow comfortably & safely. After play, one child said, “My cheeks hurt from smiling & laughing so much!”

So much fun was had today in the snow  All children enjoyed today, building snowmen and having snowball fights with their friends. A special shout out to Mr Lyon, Mr Couling & Mr Swatman who were the dream team moving the snow & making sure school was safe

Y2 Forest School

Year 2 had a great forest school session with @Littfoothq. The children worked together to use sticks to accurately mark out the 4 compass points & used flint and steel to practise making sparks for fire lighting. #outdoorlearning #forestschool #RPForestschool

Y2 Music

Year 2 have loved creating, selecting & combining sounds using the interrelated dimensions of music in this half term’s music lessons with  @JuniorJamHQ They have worked hard to listen with concentration & understanding to a range of music sharing what they like about it #RPMusic

Y2 New Reading Area

Year 2 love their new reading area & with over 100 high quality texts to choose from they were excited to get reading. The Comet by @Joetoddstanton & We are all Wonders by @RJPalacio were great reads so far.

Y2 Religious Education

This week in RE the children have been learning about special places in Christianity. We looked at the specific parts of a church, found out the purpose of stained glass windows and had a go at making our own stained glass windows. #RPRE

Y2 Computing

In computing the children learnt about word processing. They became familiar with the keyboard by typing up extracts from their favourite books and learnt some keyboard short cuts to help them alter text. Examples of their work is on seesaw. #RPComputing
