Y2 have PE on Tuesday. Children wear their complimentary Roby Park PE kit to school – white logo tshirt, navy joggers and jacket. In the warmer months, children may want to wear their burgundy shorts.
Children are allocated multiple books weekly on Rising Stars Reading Planet as well as a physical book which is changed weekly, linked to their stage of Reading. Physical books are changed every Monday. We expect children to read for 10 minutes every night and then to complete the end of book comprehension quiz online when they come to the end of their book. This week in DT the children have been designing, testing and making chairs that meets a specific design brief. They worked hard to ensure the chair was stable, secure and would hold the weight of baby bear from Goldilocks and the 3 bears.
Y2 had a fantastic forest school session that led to lots of badges! We worked on our fire lighting skills before working collaboratively to create a piece of artwork using natural materials. We also used potato peelers to develop our whittling skills. #RPEnrichment @Littfoothq

Y2 enjoyed exploring @Space_Station in their computing lessons this week. They identified & digitally drew items that astronauts need to survive and created algorithms that would be useful when living and working on the International Space Station.
Y2 were democratic in their @SSCCTY meeting today. The children discussed the British Value respect & considered how they show & receive respect in school. One child said, “I feel respected @RobyParkSchool because it is a kind school and we celebrate differences.” #RPPSHE

In history Y2 have been developing a better understanding of how transport has changed over time. They enjoyed putting pictures of different vehicles in chronological order while also looking at the differences & similarities between cars today & cars in 1896. #RPHistory

Growing up week was a fantastic end to an amazing spring term. The children were able to come to school dressed as what they want to be when they grow up. We had vets, doctors, hair dressers, artists, chefs, beauticians, soldiers, footballers and dancers. #aspirations #DreamBig

In geography this week the children have been using atlases to locate the 7 continents and the 5 oceans of the world. We also played some fun games to recap compass points and the countries of the U.K #RPGeography

Y2 enjoyed a fantastic trip to @StBartsRoby. We were able to find some of the important parts of the church by completing a fun scavenger hunt. We developed a better understanding of why Christians celebrate Easter and we found out that the building is 174 years old #RPRE #Easter

We discussed animals that live in our oceans as part of #WorldWildlifeDay & some asked how big some of the animals were. So, along with @Year2RobyPark we did some research and used ourselves to make the length of blue whales and orca. We were amazed at their size!

Thank you to parents & carers for sending the children to school ready for the weather. This meant we were able to have fun in the snow comfortably & safely. After play, one child said, “My cheeks hurt from smiling & laughing so much!”

In computing this week the children had a go at following an algorithm to make their own paper boat. They discovered the importance of making sure each step is clear and are beginning to apply this when debugging code on scratch. #RPComputing
In geography today the children worked collaboratively to use maps of the playground to find clues left by the mischievous elf. They did a fantastic job of orientating their maps to help find the clues
Year 2 had a magical morning with Mrs Claus today. The children wrote their Christmas wishes, had a Christmas story and danced around to some festive songs! #RPEnrichment #RPChristmas
Family dining wouldn’t have been possible without the kitchen team for cooking the delicious food; Mrs Allen and Mrs Lyon for organising everything; and all the grown ups who took time out of their day to enjoy the festivities with the children #thanks #RPenrichment

This week in DT, Y2 have designed, created and ate healthy wraps that met a specific design brief. They considered different flavour combinations and the importance of using ingredients from different food groups to ensure the meal was balanced.
Our Christmas Family Dining event is back this year but with a few changes. This year, parents and carers can choose the day they want to attend and book their whole family on together so siblings can sit together. Head to Parent Booking to reserve your seats.
Another fantastic swimming lesson with @ELITE_Swim_UK the children explored different ways of moving through the water and practised floating. One child said, “I felt more confident in the water this week and can’t wait for next week.” #poolstoschools #RPPE

We are taking part in CUT YOUR CARBON this November. Children will be coming home with checklists they can use to work as a family to cut carbon. Those who return their checklist will receive a certificate! @EcoSchools

Tomorrow is our annual @RockKidzUK Day which will be teaching the children a positive message about mental health, self esteem and wellbeing, Children can come dressed as rock stars or if they do not want to dress up they can wear their own clothes or uniform.
Everyday @RobyParkSchool is memorable but in a pool on the playground is unforgettable. Thanks to @ELITE_Swim_UK Y2 built confidence in the water by floating on their backs and putting their faces in the water. They played lots of games and had fun!
In English Y2 we’re given an illustration from their vehicle text and had lots of fun creating freeze frames imagining that they were in the picture. They then used clues from the book to predict what the story could be about. #readysteadywrite

Y2 loved finding efficient ways of adding 2 digit & 1 digit numbers. One child said, “When I was using the tens frames I noticed that I can use number bonds to 10 to help work out 18+5. It was quick & is now 1 of my favourite methods.”? #RPMaths
D.E.A.R (Drop everything and read) has been a great way for the children to take time out of the day to read, share and explore new books with their friends ?? #RPReading
Year 2 had an amazing time at their spooktastic #Halloween disco. The children loved getting dressed up in their costumes and dancing to their favourite songs @george_ezra was a very popular choice and their #macarena skills were very impressive. #RPenrichment
