Meet the Year 3 Team

Welcome to Year 3 at Roby Park Primary School. Our class is led by Mr Stansfield, who is supported by our class teaching assistant, Miss Lisa, and our dedicated one-to-one support staff, Mrs Kay and Mrs Williams.

 

We are delighted to be part of your child’s learning journey. Together, we provide a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment where every child feels valued, supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential. We nurture children’s individual talents, celebrate their successes and provide the right level of challenge to help them grow in confidence and independence.

 

Miss Lisa: Class Teaching Assistant

Miss Lisa brings a patient, calm and caring presence to our classroom. She helps children feel valued, reassured and ready to learn.

 

She has a particular strength in supporting children with mathematics through practical, enjoyable and engaging activities. Miss Lisa is passionate about helping children develop confidence in their learning, recognise their strengths and build a positive self-image.

 

Mrs Kay: One-to-One Support

Mrs Kay is passionate about learning and enjoys helping to bring subjects to life. She encourages children to develop their problem-solving skills, think independently and grow in confidence.

 

Mrs Kay is always ready with a creative idea or an exciting challenge to extend children’s thinking. Her positive approach encourages children to remain curious, persevere and take pride in finding solutions.

 

Mrs Williams: One-to-One Support

Mrs Williams is a hardworking and highly dedicated teaching assistant who brings care and consistency to everything she does. She supports children of all abilities through calm encouragement, clear explanations and carefully adapted guidance.

 

With her friendly smile and steady presence, Mrs Williams helps children feel safe, understood and confident. She is genuinely committed to ensuring that every child is included, supported and given the opportunity to thrive.

 

Our Teaching Approach

In Year 3, we lead learning with a warm, calm and encouraging approach. We believe strongly in building children’s confidence, celebrating effort and helping every child feel proud of their progress.

 

We create purposeful and engaging lessons that spark curiosity and encourage children to think in new ways. Through practical investigations, lively discussions, problem-solving activities and creative challenges, we help children become active participants in their learning.

 

We encourage children to ask questions, share ideas and explain their thinking. We also support them to become increasingly independent, take responsibility for their learning and develop the resilience needed to overcome challenges.

 

As a team, we bring a wide range of interests and experiences into the classroom, including a love of sport, the outdoors and exploring different places. These interests help us make connections between classroom learning and the wider world.

 

Above all, we recognise every child as an individual. We celebrate their unique strengths, support their personal development and encourage them to become confident, enthusiastic and successful learners.

 

What Children Can Look Forward to in Year 3

Year 3 is an exciting stage in children’s school journey. Children can look forward to a broad and varied curriculum filled with new experiences, increasing responsibilities and opportunities to develop their interests and talents.

 

Throughout the year, children will enjoy:

• writing creatively for different purposes and audiences;
• carrying out practical and exciting science investigations;
• exploring engaging history and geography topics;
• learning outdoors and developing their Forest School skills;
• learning to swim and developing confidence in the water;
• beginning to learn a foreign language;
• developing their singing and musical skills; and
• taking part in a variety of enrichment activities and special experiences.

 

We encourage children to contribute to discussions, share their ideas and celebrate their own achievements and those of others. Through these varied opportunities, children will develop their knowledge, creativity, communication skills and confidence.

 

Our Classroom Environment

We provide a warm, structured and nurturing classroom where every child is encouraged to try their best. Kindness, teamwork and resilience are central to our approach, and we work hard to ensure that children feel confident enough to have a go, even when something feels challenging.

 

We create a safe and inclusive environment where children know that their ideas are valued and their voices are heard. Children are encouraged to work collaboratively, listen respectfully to different viewpoints and offer support and encouragement to others.

 

We help children understand that mistakes are a valuable part of learning and that perseverance leads to progress. Effort, improvement and achievement are recognised and celebrated throughout our classroom.

 

Most importantly, we want every child to feel happy, motivated and excited to come to school each day. Our aim is for children to leave Year 3 feeling proud of how far they have come and ready to embrace the next stage of their learning journey.

 

PE

Y3 have PE on Thursday. Children wear their complimentary Roby Park PE kit to school – white logo tshirt, navy joggers and jacket. In the warmer months, children may want to wear their burgundy shorts.

 

Reading Books

Children are allocated multiple books weekly on Rising Stars Reading Planet as well as a physical book which is changed weekly, linked to their stage of Reading. Physical books are changed every Thursday. We expect children to read for 10 minutes every night and then to complete the end of book comprehension quiz online when they come to the end of their book. You can access Reading Planet here.

 

Home Learning

• Children are to read for 10 minutes per night and bring their reading log in everyday, signed by an adult.
• Children can complete 20 minutes of  times tables and division challenges on Times Table Rockstars.
• Children have 10/14 Junior Duke challenges to complete across the academic year. Children have their completed challenges signed off at their half termly Juniior Duke meetings.
