All children starting in Reception will be participating in the reception baseline assessment (RBA) within the first 6 weeks of starting reception. The purpose of the assessment is to provide the starting point for a new measure that will help parents understand how well schools support their pupils to progress between reception and year 6 / the end of key stage 2.
It is a short (approximately 20 minutes), practical assessment focusing on their early literacy, communication, language and mathematics skills. A teacher will carry out the assessment one-to-one with each pupil, any time within the first 6 weeks of Reception. It does not require any preparation at home or at school, and will help teachers to understand what their pupils can do at the beginning of their time here at Roby Park. It is important to note that this is not a pass or fail assessment and the results will not be published. It will be used to inform us of your child’s next steps in learning.
Our Reception class is led by Miss Murphy supported by our teaching assistants, Mrs Taberner and Miss Emily.
Reception have PE on Monday. Children wear their complimentary Roby Park PE kit to school – white logo tshirt, navy joggers and jacket. In the warmer months, children may want to wear their burgundy shorts.
Children are allocated multiple books weekly on Rising Stars Reading Planet as well as a physical book which is changed weekly, linked to their stage of Reading. Physical books are changed every Monday. We expect children to read for 10 minutes every night and then to complete the end of book comprehension quiz online when they come to the end of their book. Last week we won a prize in our Attendance Recognition Classopoly! We won community chest which meant that we could choose our own prize. The children chose to have a film afternoon with snacks!

We have been using emojis to discuss how the main characters felt at different parts of the story.

We discussed YouTube and what we enjoy watching or playing. Reception had some great things that they watch such as ‘Peppa Pig’, ‘Lucas the Spider’ and even ‘Everton at Goodison Park’! They love playing lots of games and listening to songs on YouTube too.
In PE our aim was to develop changing direction and choose my own movement to do on the spot. Well done!
Thank you again to @Tesco for providing us with funding for daily fruit and veg for our children to enjoy. Fruit is available at break time and lunch time and if there is anything left, children (only) can help themselves to a piece of fruit for the way home/extra-curricular clubs. Children are having the options of at least 12 different types of fruit each day including: melon, watermelon, grapes, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, apples, bananas, tangerines, mango, pineapple, nectarines, plums, pears #StrongerStarts #fiveaday
We had a visit from the NHS Health Team who taught us all about hand hygiene. We discussed when and how we wash our hands and then used some special soap and flashlights to look at all of the germs on our hands. We then made sure to give our hands a really good clean!
On Friday we had our first EYFS Craft Club! We worked very hard to design and create superhero masks! #RPEnrichment
After reading our new literacy book, ‘Juniper Jupiter’, we created our own Superhero Mini-Me! We thought of some fantastic superhero names.
This week our @HelpPicture assembly asked the question ‘What do you love most about where you live?’ Reception loved sharing why they love their house, such as liking their neighbours or living near their friends. We then designed our own houses, focusing on the different rooms

Christmas is not about what is under the tree but who is around it and we can’t wait for the children to return to tell us all about it. Rarely they mention gifts, they mention you. We then went on our very own treasure hunt around our school grounds! We looked high and low to try and find something ‘extra special’ to us! We found lots of things including flowers, different leaves, a bug, a mini car, gold… and even an old sock!

Today we are coming together to support our local food bank. Children can bring in a donation and in return wear their own clothes. Thank you for your support
Tomorrow, we will be holding our Halloween discos. We will end the day, with our fabulous Halloween discos with Nursery and Reception enjoying their party from 2.00-3.00pm during the school day. Y1 & Y2 will have their disco at 3-4pm with Y3 – Y6 having their disco 4.15 – 5.15pm. All children can come to school in their Halloween costumes however these must be age appropriate. Frightening and gory costumes, masks and weapons are not allowed. If children do not want to dress up, they can come to school in party clothes or whatever they are most comfortable in. Nursery children who do not attend school in the afternoons but wish to come to the disco, are welcome to return to school at 2pm. The cost of the disco for Nursery – Y2 children is £3.00 and includes a small packet of sweets, crisps and a drink. The cost of the disco for Y3 – Y6 is £3.00 and children get a chip cone and they can bring extra money to buy sweets, drinks and crisps. There is also limited glow items. The disco must be paid for on Parent Pay by 3.00pm tomorrow. Tickets are live on Parent Pay now. All children in Nursery – Y2 should be picked up from their classroom door at the end of their discos. KS2 children should be collected from the main playground by an adult at 5.15pm. KS2 children must be brought to school for the disco by an adult and the adult must wait for children to have gone through the double red doors before leaving then collecting them at 5.15pm. Staff are not responsible for children until they are in the disco.

We are excited to be hosting an inspirational workshop with European Champion Boxer, Chloe Watson. Chloe needs your help to raise funds for vital training, medical and competition costs. This money raised will also help our school and we will be using monies raised to put towards OPAL.

Umbrella Project. From the ADHD foundation website: The Neurodiversity Umbrella Project is an uplifting visual representation of all the different minds we have here in the UK. Every Umbrella Project installation helps to raise awareness and understanding of neurodiversity. Thousands of colourful umbrellas are strung together over public spaces, in schools, and in company buildings around the nation. Each display is designed to represent the one in five of us who have a neurodevelopmental condition, such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia or Tourette’s syndrome. We had a visit from the NHS Health Team who taught us all about brushing our teeth and keeping our teeth nice and healthy. We loved setting a timer to helps us brush our teeth, making sure to include our tongue!

We had a visit from Gemma today who is a personal trainer from @DavidLloydUK. She told us all about her role in the gym and the different jobs she does. Then she taught us some exercises and stretched that we can do to keep us fit and healthy. #RPEnrichment #RPCareers
Our final visit was from John, a chef at @DavidLloydUK. He told the children the best part of his job, the food he likes to cook and the strangest food he has eaten. Children loved sharing their ideas with John and the foods they enjoy. #RPEnrichment #RPCareers

Summer camp places can now be booked on Parent Pay. Sessions run from 9am – 3pm and cost just £12.50 per child, per day. Summer camp runs from Monday 22nd July – Friday 9th August. Children need to bring with them a coat, packed lunch, snack and water bottle.

During our @HelpPicture assembly, children shared that a good leader should be kind, talk to people nicely, make good rules to keep us safe and listen to others. They also had some ideas for the next Prime Minister!

Children enjoyed using flowers to make natural perfume. We made some art using a rock to transfer flowers on to the fabric. We ended with some creative rope skills.

In @HelpPicture this morning, we discussed what the past is and how we find things out. Children suggested we could read books, look on the internet or talk to an adult. They were very intrigued with this weeks question.
Please make sure children are wearing factor 50 sun cream when the weather is predicted to be hot. Please leave jumpers/cardigans off. Children need a water bottle to stay hydrated & a hat to protect them from the sun. Children will be encouraged to play in shaded areas

Thank you to our HSA & our staff for making Easter happen at Roby Park. They’ve collected Easter eggs & organised an Easter Egg Hunt that the children thoroughly enjoyed. Our Easter discos were a great success also & today there will be visitors to class with more egg surprises

Reception loved our Valentine’s disco today. They did some amazing dancing, singing and enjoying time with friends. We finished off with some lovely treats. #RPEnrichment
We had a hand washing session today. We learnt about good and bad germs, how we keep our hands clean and the best technique for washing hands. Children loved seeing the germs on their hands and how they disappeared after washing.

We had a fantastic time today as superheroes. we had some very special superheroes including Hulk, Spider-Man and a Mersey Rail hero. We completed the obstacle course, shared our super powers and had a very super snack #RPEnrichment
Today we dressed up as superheroes and trained to be a superhero on our obstacle course! We had some fantastic superheroes including Hulk, Iron Man and a paramedic! We ended the day with an ice cream to celebrate our hard work as superheroes! #RPEnrichment
For our final craft club session we created our own mini-me superheroes!

We are raising money for NSPCC. We will be collecting £1 donations and children can wear clothes with numbers on or patterns. We will also be hosting a small cake sale after school, on the main playground
This week Nursery and Reception worked collaboratively to create this amazing superhero city! They all worked very hard and supported each other. They made sure to include people, towers, trees, vehicles and obviously some superheroes!
We welcomed our R – Y2 families today for a phonics workshop to demonstrate how phonics is taught at Roby Park. We modelled lessons to show how these look, provided resources to use at home and shared the fantastic resources our children have in school!

Children worked collaboratively and made a bridge using sticks. They enjoyed sitting around the fire and using their senses to describe what they could see, hear and smell. The most exciting part was relaxing in the hammocks.

So much fun was had today in the snow All children enjoyed today, building snowmen and having snowball fights with their friends. A special shout out to Mr Lyon, Mr Couling & Mr Swatman who were the dream team moving the snow & making sure school was safe
EYFS loved getting out on the field today to explore the snow. We drew pictures, made snowballs and a rather lovely snowman. Children has so much fun with their friends.
Please send children in wrapped up warm in thick coats, hat, gloves and scarves with wellies so we can enjoy the snow together! Please send children in with spare socks/tights
We are all really enjoying playtimes with our new role play area as well as scooting and lots more area’s to get creative to make playtime more fun for all!

For our final session, children practiced putting their heads under water to blow bubbles. They had to hold on to the side and use their legs to push away, building strength and confidence in the water.

Rock Kidz Day! We loved singing and dancing and Reception really loved the dance battle between children and teachers.
We had a special @HelpPicture this week. We looked at how poppies have changed over time. Children think it’s a great idea that poppies will now be plastic free. We also enjoyed talking about which materials would be best for poppies last longer.

Tomorrow is our annual @RockKidzUK Day which will be teaching the children a positive message about mental health, self esteem and wellbeing, Children can come dressed as rock stars or if they do not want to dress up they can wear their own clothes or uniform.
What a fantastic first swimming lesson Reception had. We loved exploring the water, floating and finding spaces by using our arms and legs. We are already so excited for next week.
Reception Today in PE our aim was to copy, repeat and explore actions in response to a theme. Well done reception!
We have really enjoyed our pumpkin fine motor skills activity this week, we had to be very careful using the hammer. It took a lot of concentration but Reception did a great job and showed lots of resilience and motivation. #RPEYFS
In maths this week we have been comparing amounts using the vocabulary more and fewer. We had a dilemma while making our fruit skewers, there wasn’t enough of each item for everyone. We compared amounts and even did some great subitising. #RPMaths
In this weeks @HelpPicture children felt that speed limits should be reduced, especially outside schools.They said going too fast might cause you to miss a red light or to injure somebody. We even made some signs to encourage drivers to slow down.
Halloween Disco ? We had a fantastic time at the disco, singing and dancing with our friends. We enjoyed some tasty snacks and had lots of fun with the glow sticks. #RPEnrichment
FOREST SCHOOL ? Reception had a great day yesterday, making different shapes and knots with the rope. We also had to make our way through the rope obstacle course and we finished off by learning how to make a fire ? #RPEnrichment
We loved our @HelpPicture this morning, we have lots of special places including school, our homes, holidays, parks and beaches. We could not believe what happened to this beautiful tree, some children have drawn pictures to show that we should be looking after trees.
We had a very exciting visit from @AnimalsTakeOver today. We had the opportunity to meet and hold some amazing animals. We met a bearded dragon, owl, mouse, frog, snake and a hedgehog. We really enjoyed it and Reception were very brave! ? ? ? ? #RPEnrichment #RPScience
