Before we start developing our own recipes, we taste tested bolognese sauce from jars. We rated their appearance, texture, smell and taste before we studied the ingredient list and nutritional values. There was a clear divide in results.
This week during DT, children have been creating their own waistcoats. They started the unit by researching fashion brands such as @FollowWestwood @Burberry @StellaMcCartney From this, children planned their designs and created their masterpieces! #RPDT
This week in DT, Y2 have designed, created and ate healthy wraps that met a specific design brief. They considered different flavour combinations and the importance of using ingredients from different food groups to ensure the meal was balanced.
Year 3 have had so much fun making their pneumatic toys. We made lots of animals including some crocodiles, dogs, turtles and even a Pudsey bear! We have definitely learnt that air has the power to make something move!
Year 4 built their own torches out of a range of different materials We used the bottom of a plastic bottle to create the housing. Then we made the reflector out of the top half by wrapping it in tin foil. Finally, we had to add the electrical elements
Year 5 carefully prepared their ingredients and spent time in the school kitchen making bolognese sauce. The results certainly looked delicious
We are making smoothies in DT but before we can we needed to explore fruits and veg! We were surprised to find that some foods we thought were vegetables are actually fruits and we know this because they have seeds! After we grouped the foods, we tried some too!
SMOOTHIES! After tasting fruits and veg in our last lesson, we were ready to make a smoothie with our favourite ingredients! We made sure we washed our hands, practiced cutting safety and followed a recipe to create our very own smoothies
We had a great session with @Littlefoothq. First we went on a bug hunt! We then showed great resilience through using our hand-eye coordination to carefully hammer nails into wood! We ended the session by collecting sticks for our own fire #RPEnrichment
In DT, we used the claw and bridge chopping techniques to chop a cucumber. This is a vital skill for our future and for our end product!
For forest school with @Littfoothq we had to build structures that were strong enough to withstand challenges of Joe trying to knock them down. We discovered that the strongest towers aren’t always the tallest and need a really strong base! #RPEnrichment
We complete our pavilions by adding cladding to the roof. To do this we weaved paper to cover the space between our frame
We started the term with a forest school session with @Littlefoothq. We practised our rope skills and worked collaboratively to build homes and find food for our insects! We ended the session by taking part in some colourful leaf printing! #RPEnrichment
We had a wonderful forest school session that led to lots of forest stamps & badges! We worked on our knot tying before working collaboratively to collect leaves and create decorations from them…some of us even got the chance to cut wood with an axe and mallet! #RPEnrichment
This week in DT the children have been designing, testing and making chairs that meets a specific design brief. They worked hard to ensure the chair was stable, secure and would hold the weight of baby bear from Goldilocks and the 3 bears.
We had such a great day at Laurel’s Wood today. We climbed trees, worked collaboratively and showed resilience while using a saw to cut bamboo to make necklaces, made a fire, toasted marshmallows & even had a go on the rope swing! #RPEnrichment
In DT this week the children learnt about the importance of a balanced diet & used that knowledge to create their own tasty wrap. They really enjoyed selecting appropriate pieces of equipment to prepare the food they had chosen & they loved taste testing.

In DT we used a range of electrical components to complete a simple circuit. We then introduced a switch to complete and break the circuit to turn our bulb on and off.

In DT Y2 researched, designed and made a chair suitable for baby bear from the story Goldilocks & the Three Bears. One child said, “It was fun testing which 3D shape was the most stable. It was hard to make the chair but we worked together & didn’t give up.”
